Alpes-de-Haute-Provence: Q ENERGY inaugurates Les Broules 2 solar farm in Monfort

On Thursday 19 September, Q ENERGY, a major player in renewable energy in France, inaugurated the Les Broules 2 solar farm in the commune of Monfort, in the Alpes-de-Haute-Provence region. Located on a former motorway brownfield site, this 5 MW plant is an extension of the Les Broules 1 solar plant, which Q ENERGY inaugurated in 2019.

This project is the result of 7 years of constructive collaboration with local representatives who are resolutely committed to the energy transition in their area. Comprising 8,700 panels, the Les Broules 2 solar power plant will supply green electricity to around 2,800 people, avoiding the emission of 200 tons of CO2 every year.

A solar farm in an ideal location

Installing solar parks on land that has already been converted is the best way to develop photovoltaics. On the brownfield site of a former motorway, the solar park shows an opportunity to enhance the land, which is both beneficial to the energy transition in the region and to the municipality of Monfort through the associated economic impact.

“In addition to the obvious benefit to the local area, the degraded nature of the land made it much easier for us to integrate the site into the environment and landscape. No land clearance was required, and the biodiversity issues on this type of land are minor and well identified. All we had to do was to perfect the integration of the power plant with accompanying measures such as the creation of passages for small fauna, habitats for birdlife and the planting of a landscape hedge”, explains Vincent Gambrelle, Regional Team Lead Solar at Q ENERGY.

Construction of the solar farm began in 2023 and took 8 months. It was commissioned in April 2024.

Local representatives, public authorities and the developer working together on a regional project

Les Broules 2 is the municipality's fourth photovoltaic power plant, partly installed on communal land, and is the latest example of the town of Monfort's commitment to the energy transition in its area. In doing so, the local authority is reaffirming its confidence in the local benefits of a solar project that has been judiciously sited, and in Q ENERGY, the developer of the Les Broules 1 power plant, launched in 2019.

This project would not have been possible without the close cooperation between Q ENERGY and the public authorities, in particular the Direction Départementale des Territoires (DDT). Their availability and involvement have been a source of constructive exchanges that are essential to the success of the project.

“The Broules 2 solar farm is a coherent and exemplary regional project. It is the product of the unfailing involvement of local elected representatives, the demanding support of government departments and the ongoing dialogue between all the stakeholders”, explains Vincent Gambrelle, Regional Team Lead Solar at Q ENERGY.

As part of this strong local dynamic, the Q ENERGY teams have mobilised as many of the skills available in the local business network as possible to carry out the work on the site. For example, the civil engineering work, the vegetation removal legal obligations and the landscaping were entrusted to local companies.
