Q ENERGY builds 10.8 MWp solar plant in Italy
Q ENERGY today announced that it has started construction work for a new solar plant of 10.8 MWp in the Italian region of Calabria. The PV plant will be equipped with about 20,000 ground-mounted solar modules and is expected to produce enough emission-free electricity to satisfy the average demand of more than 7,200 households in the country. This will save about 6,200 tons of carbon emissions per year. Completion of the PV plant is expected in spring 2025.
The site was previously home to a chemical company and had been unused for decades. The 10-hectare property is located in the middle of a commercial and industrial area, just one kilometre from the closest substation and therefore offers ideal conditions for a green energy plant. To maximise the energy yield, the modules will be mounted on single-axis trackers that follow the sunlight throughout the day.
Vincenzo Magliulo, Business Developer at Q ENERGY, says: “This project is an excellent example of how innovative solar power plants can contribute to Italy's energy transition without affecting the landscape and the use of productive agricultural lands. It is one in a series of green energy projects that Q ENERGY is planning in the country. We are working on innovative solutions that deliver more renewable energy and flexibility services in the coming years.”
